CCCM in SQU

This is a very nice article about the application of the CCCM in Oman

Oman Child Centered Classroom Methodology (CCCM)

Work With Sultan Qaboos University Faculty to Promote CCCM

The Sultanate of Oman’s education ministry has committed to raising education standards to a level which will enable Oman’s children to perform more effectively in schools and – eventually – in the marketplace. CCCM enables students to direct their own learning, a critical capability in an ever changing technology-based world.
CCCM is widely regarded as a successful example of how to improve education quality and prepare students from first to fourth grades to be self-directed in their educational development. The Oman Ministry of Education is working with Seward International as part of the Creative Associates team to scale up and institutionalize CCCM practices in schools and teacher training institutions.
Seward has
  • Worked with the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) English Education faculty to develop the 11-lesson course.
  • Deliver training to SQU English Education faculty to orient them to and prepare them to use the new CCCM focused course design.
  • Team teach and mentor faculty as they begin teaching using the new curriculum materials.

Seward Inc. Works with Clients to Design and Deliver Courses Using Moodle
Over the past two years, Seward Inc. has worked with clients to design and deliver training courses using Moodle, an open source learning management system. With over 50,000 installations in 207 countries, Moodle is quickly gaining the attention of educators around the globe.

Seward has used Moodle’s highly flexible nature to fit these clients’ course delivery needs:
  • Omani Pre-Service Teacher Training Project in Child-Centered Classroom Methodologies (CCCM): In collaboration with instructors from Sultan Qaboos University’s College of Education, Seward redesigned a college course for pre-service teachers on CCCM. In designing the new hybrid course, Seward used Moodle’s interactive and social capabilities to give the pre-service teachers personal experience in the methods they would be using in their own classrooms, such as active learning and collaborative small group work.

I believe that SQU is the first step in implementing the CCCM method in Oman. It is a good starting point to test and assess this method in preparation to applying it in our schools. I think that SQU is the best place to initiate the CCCM and that it's going to spread the awareness of this method in Oman. Overall, I think that the CCCM is gonna prove to be successful in SQU and it will be a positive move in the right track.

  3. Thank you for posting this useful artical. In fact, learner-centerd environment helps the student to take the responsibility for their own learning rather that depending on their teachers as a source of information.Their teachers should just facilitate and give direction for the learning process. Indeed CCCM is considered as a good example in developing the education quality and preparing students to be self-directed in their educational development. Thus, I altogether agree that that CCCM would change the education in Oman to the best.........

  4. Since SQU is considered to be at the top of the educational pyramid in Oman, it is good to start such a project in SQU. I believe that this is just the beginning towards applying the CCCM all over Oman. I'm looking forward to see the results of this system on the quality of education after many years of applying it in our schools.
